# Client data that arrives on its own, with its source attached

Facts arrive from the places that already hold them. Those are the client's payroll provider and bank and the custodian's data files. They are also the IRS, public property records and government data. Each fact keeps its source and the date it was true. So nobody retypes a statement and nobody guesses. Each feed is an add-on, billed at its cost plus a stated margin.

## Payroll and income data the client connects
A client connects their employer's payroll from the portal in a few taps. Employment, income history and pay stubs arrive on their own. Stubs show gross pay, deductions and taxes. The year-end wage forms arrive too. The PDF of each stub and form is stored encrypted. Only those records are requested. The connection never asks to change where pay is deposited. When a connection needs a fresh sign-in, the client is prompted. When they disconnect, collection stops and the records are removed.

## Bank and investment accounts the client links
Linked bank, card and brokerage accounts feed the client's money view. They bring in balances, transactions, holdings and statements. Transactions are sorted into spending categories. Each gets a confidence score. The uncertain and the large ones are set aside for the client to confirm. Corrections keep their history. The advisor works from the reviewed spending as evidence. It shows what the household really spends by category. It shows where the picture has gaps. An account the custodian reports is flagged so it is never counted twice.

## Your custodian's data files, including cost basis
A small agent on the firm's own server watches the custodian's daily drop folder. It uploads each complete set of files: accounts, positions, securities and transactions. The set also has the cost-basis files. They hold open lots, unrealized gains and losses and realized closing lots. Files are scanned, checked and stored encrypted. They then become one record per account per day. Lots carry forward day to day. The custodian's own basis is laid over them. Each basis figure says whether it is known, provisional or missing.

## What the custodian's files feed
The portfolio page shows each position with its cost basis, lots, unrealized gain and period return. It can show them as of any date, with no look-ahead. Advisory fee runs value each account from the custodian's positions at period end. Performance is measured from the daily record. Manual corrections are kept with an audit trail. Trade instructions are written against these positions. A second person approves them. See [investment research](/investment-research) and [time and billing](/billing).

## IRS records pulled under the client's authorization
The client signs an authorization on the firm's own IRS account. With it, the platform pulls the client's transcripts straight from the IRS. These are the return, account, wage and income, record-of-account and non-filing transcripts. The client never has to find a copy of a return or hand over an IRS login. Prior years are pulled again each day for each active authorization. So what the IRS has on file sits beside the return the firm prepares. See [planning and tax returns](/individual-tax).

## Home values and comparable sales
Enter an address and get the assessed value, an automated valuation and the tax on the property. It also returns the owners and an equity estimate from public records. It finds other properties the client is likely to own. It classifies each as owned, held in a trust or entity, or probably rented out. It shows recent comparable sales as a spread of prices per square foot. It does not invent one number. A client or an advisor confirms each property. The advisor can sync those into the plan as real assets. Their source stays attached.

## Retirement plans, rates and reference data
Look up an employer's retirement plan by its tax ID. See its filings, investment choices and fees against benchmarks before you advise on a rollover. Government interest rates used in estate and gift calculations are on hand. So are dozens of economic series, from Treasury yields to inflation components. Both are captured into a plan with their date. Security prices, fundamentals, corporate actions and fund holdings keep the investment picture up to date.
